No doubt, you’ve showed up to the gym, opened your gym bag and realized that you forgot one essential item for your workout. I’ve been there! Make it easy on yourself; put together a list of must–have essential gym bag items and keep them stashed to avoid any mishaps. 8 Essential Gym Bag Items To Keep Packed In Your Bag

1.) Dry Shampoo

My gym doesn’t have a shower (which is a common issue) so I rely on dry shampoo if I need to go from my workout to the office or to run an errand. Spray your hair with dry shampoo, throw it up in a messy topknot and you’re good to go.

2.) Socks

The number of times I have shown up to the gym for cardio and realized I didn’t have any socks is slightly embarrassing. Prevent this by keeping an extra pair of socks in your gym bag, especially during the warmer months when you might be wearing sandals or flip flops.

3.) Headphones

Just thinking about a silent workout gives me anxiety. Keep a pair of headphones in your gym bag so you always have your favorite songs to pace yourself too.

4.) Odor Bags

Do you throw your gym clothes in your bag after your workout and not take them out until hours later? I’ve been guilty of this. Keep odor reducing bags in your gym bag to prevent it from acquiring the smell of your sweaty gym clothes or socks.

5.) Face wipes + deodorant

This combo is essential post–workout. It makes freshening up on–the–go easy. Use face wipes that easily remove makeup and sweat and don’t irritate your skin. Apply deodorant pre and post–workout to avoid the sweaty smell.

6.) Water Bottle

It’s unlikely you will forgot to bring a water bottle to your workout, but because it is a must–have for any workout, it is a good idea to keep an extra one in your gym bag. Be sure to wash it with soap and water after each use to prevent bacteria.

7.) Underwear

There is nothing worse than changing out of your gym clothes to head to work and not having a pair of clean underwear. It can be a hard item to remember to pack, so do yourself a favor and keep a no–show pair always stashed in your gym bag.

8.) Hair Ties + brush

The worst feeling is getting to the gym and not having a hair tie to throw your hair up. The feeling of your hair sticking to your neck…no thank you. Keep a set of hair ties in your gym bag to prevent this and also to use after your workout when you need to toss your hair up in that high bun. Pack a brush as well, so you can smooth our your tangled hair easily.

I completely second socks. I have needed them more than once. One time I went in the pouring rain and by the time I got inside, the socks I was wearing were drenched. Thankfully I had another pair or I would have turned around and gone home. I also suggest a swim suit, goggles and a towel if your gym has a pool. That way, if you forgot something essential, you can at least get in a swim session.

I went to a class the other day and realized that I now I need a headband or something because I sweat like crazy! I guess it’s a good thing 🙂 I’m getting a good workout 🙂 Thanks for the tips!

I need to start doing this. I usually walk back home sweaty and shower there, but this would save so much time.
