Lipstick Colours that Will Make Your Teeth Sparkle

Guest Post: Diana Smith

Having a pearly white smile instantly improves your overall look, but it’s not always easy to keep your teeth sparkly. While regular visits to the dentist’s and proper oral hygiene help a lot, a few other tricks can make your teeth look whiter than they actually are. Your choice of lipstick colours can make or break your entire makeup look, but it can also do wonders for your smile.

Red lipsticks are the best choice when you want to make a statement by wearing a minimum amount of makeup. If you opt for bold red lips, you won’t have to spend more than 15 minutes on the rest of the makeup, and you’ll look fierce. Not only does a ravishing red give out that sexy vibe but it can also make your teeth several shades whiter. However, it’s crucial that you go for the red lipsticks with blue undertones, such as MAC’s Ruby Woo or ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lip in London Fog. The blue undertone in the lipstick will visually make your teeth whiter, cancelling out the yellow hues on your teeth.

Soft pinks are also one of the good choices when it comes to lipsticks that will make your teeth look whiter. However, you must be careful with pinks as well, because some of them can make the teeth look more yellow than they already are. MAC’s Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Elegant Accent is the one with the cool undertone and its shade will make your teeth look sparkly. If you’re leaning more towards darker pinks, go for Clinique’s Different Lipstick in A Different Grape.

Sexy purples are almost as good at brightening the teeth as the reds are. Still, you should pay attention to the shades of purple you choose, just as much as you should look for the best reds. Vampy shades as dark purples that have a little pink in their formula can make your teeth visually whiter. NARS’s Liv Audacious Lipstick is the perfect choice that will both last long on your lips and offer you a gorgeous smile. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, Avon’s True Colour Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Superb Wine is the lipstick for you.

Proper oral hygiene matters

The right lipstick choice is one of the best ways to quickly make your teeth look whiter, but makeup can only do so much to improve your looks. What you should pay more attention to is maintaining proper oral hygiene and keep your teeth healthy. Having regular check-ups at your orthodontists and making sure your teeth are healthy, white and straight is imperative for good oral health. You’ll have a much better chance at having a pretty smile if you undergo a good teeth straightening treatment on time, than if you postpone your visit to the orthodontist and face an irreversible damage. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and possibly after every meal; don’t forget to floss and rinse with mouthwash for a healthy mouth and a pearly white smile.

What shades to avoid

While lipsticks with cooler undertones can visually whiten your teeth, the ones with yellow, orange or brown undertone will make them more yellow. Therefore, avoid frosty shimmer shades, orange colours, and neon hues, because they will look highly unflattering on your skin, bringing out the yellow in your teeth. Nude lipsticks with brown or peachy undertones can make the teeth look dingy, so steer clear from those shades as well.

When you need a quick fix for your slightly yellow teeth, the choice of lipstick can go a long way. Wearing lipsticks with cool undertones will visually whiten your teeth, so make sure you go for red, purple, and pink shades if you want that pearly white smile combined with a gorgeous pout. However, don’t forget to take care of your oral hygiene, because only healthy teeth are the beautiful teeth.

Red is for a fact a popping lip color. I love it especially since I’m dark just because it brings out that bold, cute and sexy appeal.

Good advice. Luckily I look good in cool tones. I could see it being tricky for ladies that look best in warm undertones to find something that does this trick but still flattering.
