Beauty and Cosmetic Trends to Inspire Us in 2018

Guest Post: Diana Smith

As the beginning of every year dictates, new trends are unveiled and brought to our attention. So what are the styles that are going to be keeping the beauty world on its toes in 2018? As we’ve seen in the last few years, trends tend to come back every decade or so. This year is no different, giving a unique twist to some old favorites and pairing them with something completely new. The stylists, makeup artists and cosmeticians have agreed: these will be the hot topics of the year.

Skincare gets the spotlight

We have been taking a lot of beauty tips from Asia in the last few years, and this isn’t about to change. Their impressive skincare routines that give us the wonderful, smooth skin and signature dewy glow is in full force, with a lot of attention being given to the ingredient labels on the products. We want even less chemicals, more natural products and clean ingredient lists. Give some love to your face by moisturizing it regularly, and feel free to splurge on some hydration masks – your skin will thank you.

Glow up

With smooth skin, the only thing you can do to enhance it is make sure the glow is visible enough. After applying foundation, add a golden or pearly highlighter to give yourself a bit of an additional glow. Avoid the last year’s sharp contours and stick to something softer. Complement it with another blast from the past that is coming back with a bang: lip gloss. Applying lip gloss gives you a radiance that makes you instantly look younger and brighter, so don’t hold back.

A pop of color

Remember the 80s? Don’t worry – they’re not coming back, at least not completely. We’ve taken the best of the crazy color-packed looks and toned them down into something that is chic and modern. Pops of color added into simple makeup looks will be starring in 2018, with things like colored eyeliner, bold lipstick and maybe even some colored mascara. Make sure you don’t go overboard and add too much, because you will just look unbalanced. Use it to your advantage and only apply when you feel like you need the added pop.

Line prevention

The time of filling in deep lines after you’re 50 is over. Clients as young as 20 are coming into clinics for neurotoxin treatments to treat the fine lines on their faces before they ever surface. It’s growing in popularity and dermatologists say that prevention is key if we want our skin to stay perfectly smooth for as long as possible. Alongside this, micro-botox – injecting smaller quantities in the dermal layer of skin – is giving us an even smoother finish, reducing pore size and decreasing oil production.

Noninvasive treatments

The cosmetic industry is at the doorstep of a new era: nonsurgical procedures. Gone are the days of the knife and stitching, it’s time for noninvasive techniques to take the spotlight. Amazing body sculpting results are now possible with noninvasive surgeries that will leave you with minimal downtime and a quick recovery. Everything from loose skin to cellulite can be treated. Nobody is hacking away at your body like it’s an enemy anymore – they’re stimulating your body’s natural processes to help you achieve your ideal body.

Will the trends be changing as the year moves on – it’s difficult to say, but these trends set a pretty straight path into the beauty industry for the year. But as every year, these trends are just guidelines, there for you to play with them and make them your own. So look at them, study them, get inspired and make something that the world will notice and remember.

I agree – Asia has some interesting and worthy skincare routines. When I’m Thailand I bought some cosmetic utensils and happy that I invested in them.

Skin care is something that I’m interested in & I tend to go towards more of the natural products & remedies. Asia is definitely ahead of the game. I’ve noticed a few young Youtube gurus were starting to get body sculpting.

I’m getting further into my thirties and didn’t realize how much of anti-aging is taking really good care of your skin before the wrinkles set in! Making it my goal to be more disciplined in my nightly beauty regimen now. Thx for the article!
