5 Feel Good Shows To Watch On Netflix This Week

My favorite shows are dramas – Grey’s Anatomy, The Americans, Scandal – but there are plenty of times when I just want to sit down and watch a feel-good show, that doesn’t force me to follow along with a 17–episode, season 6 plotline. You with me? For those times, my favorite picks are stand up comedy specials, animated children movies and 30–minute animated TV shows, i.e. Big Mouth. If you are having one of those moods, here are some of my go-to Netflix shows.

The Standups

If you love stand up, this is a must–watch! Netflix put together 6, 30–minute episodes of some of the freshest voices in comedy. I turned it on for the Fortune Feimster episode but became of fan of the other comedians as well. Each comedian truly had me laughing out loud at their jokes, which is what you want after a long, stressful workday, right?! Each comedian has a different approach, so if you aren’t enjoying one of them, you can just skip to the next.

This is such a cute, feel-good animated movie, with an all-star cast including Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey. The basic premise of the film involves a koala attempting to save his failing theater by hosting a singing competition that includes an elephant, gorilla, pig and more. Each character has their own story and the ending is truly special.

If you haven’t already watched Moana, you should add it to your list. This is a heart-warming movie that has stunning animation and even it’s filler characters (aka the rooster) shine. This is a hero’s journey story, that has been done before, but this one really is one–of–a–kind. It has a positive, uplifting message that we can all be reminded of from time to time.

This one has an Oscar and Golden Globe win behind it, and for good reason. Zootopia also has an all-star cast (Shakira, Kristin Bell, Jenny Slate) and has such great animated characters and unique storytelling. The film is inspiring and presents courage, humility, diversity, and fairness in a masterful way. Plus, it has it’s funny parts, so you can watch a feel-good film and get a laugh in.

Iliza Shlesinger: Freezing Hot

Shlesinger has a few stand-up specials on Netflix, this one being from 2015. She has a special comedy style, so it might not be for everyone, but if you do enjoy this one, be sure to check out her other specials. Overall, if you are looking for a way to relax after an emotional day, you will get a good laugh from her. This special focuses on the differences between men and women, and while some of her jokes are cliche, she also gets things pretty spot on!
