10 Things You Can Do to Slow Down Aging

Guest Post: Patrick Bailey

Aging is going to happen eventually and there isn’t anything that can be done about it. You will eventually get wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of aging. However, there are ways you can slow down aging. You can use a wide range of holistic methods to keep aging at bay. One of the most important things to remember is that aging is not just about the skin. The things that are happening inside of your body affect the aging process as well, so that is certainly something to keep in mind.

From exercising to dieting and more…there are many ways you can start slowing down the aging process. Learn about 10 of the best ways to get started today.

1. Ditching Sugar

One of the ways you can slow down the aging process is by ditching the sugar. Sugar can be extremely detrimental to your health. It can spike your blood sugar levels, which can be dangerous, especially as you can older. It can also affect your skin and make you look older than you really are. Eating too much sugar, especially fructose and glucose, fight with elastin and collagen, which are supposed to protect your skin. When sugar interacts with them, the elastin and collagen become dehydrated. Your skin will lose elasticity and look dull. If you want to fight off aging, ditching the sugar now would be a great idea.

2. Going Gluten Free

Another way that you can slow down aging is by going gluten-free. The main reason for doing this is because modern wheat can spike your blood sugar and cause your skin to become dehydrated. In addition, gluten absorbs the minerals and nutrients in your body, causing your skin to become unhealthy. If you go gluten-free, you can reap many different benefits. The best choices are natural, gluten-free options.

3. Increasing Your Water Intake

One of the worst things for the skin is dehydration. If you aren’t drinking enough water, your joints, skin, and body aren’t going to be hydrated. Your body won’t be able to get toxins out and this can negatively impact your skin. Drinking more water will improve the elasticity in your skin and provide your skin with the hydration it needs. If you want plumper looking skin, increasing your water intake is going to help. Generally, you should be drinking around 2 liters of water every day if you want to keep your skin looking youthful and brilliant.

4. Reducing Your Stress Level

When you are extremely stressed, your cortisol levels are probably through the roof. This can lead to many harmful diseases including diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and other health issues. In addition, if you deal with chronic stress, it could take years from your life and make you look years older than your actual age. You will start to wrinkle early as well. High levels of stress also deplete the minerals and vitamins from your body. This reduces the healthy glow from your skin. You can reduce your stress level by practicing yoga, exercising, doing meditation, walking daily, and more. Get the relaxation you need to revitalize your skin.

5. Loading Your Body Up with Antioxidants

Everybody is exposed to chemicals and toxins. The problem is these not only affect your health, but they affect your skin as well. Not only that, but the metabolic processing in your body can also damage your skin cells. When you also have high levels of stress, inflammation, and an unhealthy diet, your body is filled with things that will cause early signs of aging.

If you want to fight off the damage, you need to load your body up with more antioxidants. You can get these through beta-carotene, as well as vitamins such as A, C, and E. These things will help to repair skin cells, fight damage, and reduce signs of aging as well. Vitamin C is going to help improve the resilience of your skin. It is also going to reduce wrinkles and improve the elasticity of your skin too.

6. Adding More Protein to Your Diet

Another way you can slow down aging is by adding more protein to your diet. Protein is beneficial in many ways. It helps to balance your insulin levels, which avoids the lows and highs of blood sugar levels. Balancing the insulin levels also helps to reduce your risk for diseases and manages weight too. Eating more protein also helps to reduce stress and repair tissues throughout your body. Protein reduces premature aging including sagging skin and wrinkles. If you want to improve your health and your skin, adding more protein to your diet can help.

7. Lifting Weights More Often

As you age, your hormones start to get thrown off balance. You start gaining weight and look less fit. If you want to slow down the aging process, lifting weights more often can help. It can improve your strength, muscle tone, and endurance. Lifting weights also helps improve your bone health which naturally declines as you get older. If you want firmer and tighter skin, you should start lifting weights more often.

8. Only Use Natural Beauty Products

At any point in your life, you should pay attention to what you put on your skin. You should only use natural beauty products, especially when you get older. The chemicals you absorb through your skin can negatively affect your health, skin, and the aging process. If you are using beauty products with toxic chemicals, they are going to rush the aging process. The harmful beauty products will dehydrate your skin, increase inflammation, and dry out the skin as well. They may even cause your skin to become more oily. Be sure you are using only natural and safe beauty products if you want to slow down the aging process.

9. Creating Healthy Sleep Routines

If you don’t get a great night of sleep regularly, you are going to feel drained and even looking drained too. The fatigue is going to set into your skin. Your hormones are going to be all over the place. Lack of sleep does show in the skin. Even if you get one hour short of sleep a few nights a week, this can raise your cortisol levels a lot. This leads to more stress and an imbalance of blood sugar as well. These two things, alone, will make you look much older.

When you sleep, your body’s repairing and regenerating your skin cells. It is also getting rid of the toxins in your body. When you go to use the bathroom in the morning, you will excrete these toxins. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body isn’t able to produce enough human growth hormone. This is the winner for all hormones that fight off aging. When you don’t have enough of this hormone, you will get wrinkles and puffy eyes. If you start creating healthy sleep routines, you can slow down the aging big time.

10. Ditching the Alcohol

Another way you can slow down the aging process is by ditching the alcohol. Alcohol affects the skin and body in many ways. It causes wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes, dry skin, blemishes on the skin, and much more. In addition, it causes a lot of inflammation in the body, which speeds up the aging process. The side effects of drinking are not worth the damage it does to your body and skin.
